The Most Popular Wikipedia Articles of 2023: From ChatGPT to Bollywood Blockbusters

Wikipedia is an important resource for many who are looking for information on various topics. To celebrate this, the Wikimedia Foundation – the organization behind Wikipedia – publishes its list of the most read articles at the end of each year, like many other platforms.

This year is no exception, with many topics related to emerging technologies such as generative artificial intelligence, the Cricket World Cup, and movies taking center stage. Overall, the English-language Wikipedia received a total of 84 billion views this year, according to Wikimedia.

The list released on Tuesday also reveals that several topics related to India have risen to the top, a trend seen in recent years.

Here’s a look at the top 25 articles on Wikipedia this year:

Wikipedia notes that this list “was originally published using English Wikipedia data retrieved by the Wikimedia Foundation on November 28, 2023. It will be updated with a full year of data on January 3, 2024. All data includes page views that went directly to articles and indirectly via redirects .”

It also revealed that it removed any articles with “less than 20% or more than 75% mobile impressions” because it often correlates with spam, botnets and other concerns.
